Haregi Ryu Wine Cask Aged Kimoto Tokubetsu Junmai Genshu
A sake combining the depth of fermentation in Kioke and maturation in wine casks. Mature aromas worth taking the time to enjoy.
Haregi Ryu is a collaborative project bringing together the sake of the Fujii Sake Brewery, make of “Ryusei”, and maturation in wine casks. Using wine barrels previously used to mature white wine in the South of France. The result is a sake greater than the sum of its parts, with distinctive notes of barrel ageing. The sake wears these aromas just as if it is putting on a kimono for a special occasion, inspiring the label design of this series. Combining classic kimoto sake brewing with the new concept of wine barrel ageing has given birth to a whole new kind of sake.
Flavour profile
Concentrated citrus fruit, dried mangoes and kumquat are intertwined with mature notes of mushroom and dark chocolate, with complex nuances of vanilla and melted butter from wine cask ageing, culminating in a long, dry finish. A whole new world of sake that you won’t be able to taste anywhere else.

Staff comments
Haregi is the name of a series of sake matured in wine casks, created by wine importer Mottox. By maturing the sake in cask, an extra layer of depth and refinement is layered onto the sake’s umami and sweetness. The aromas from wine cask ageing entwine perfectly with the notes of the sake itself, creating a whole new world of flavours. Perfect for wine lovers, enjoy while snacking on dried fruits or chocolate.
