Haregi Kitsune Wine Cask Aged Tokubetsu Junmai Genshu

Combining a triple helping of black koji and wine cask ageing, this is a sake to enjoy at a leisurely pace.

This sake is a collaborative release with the Kinmon Akita Sake Brewery of Akita Prefecture, matured in wine casks that were previously used to age white wine in the South of France. Following its time in barrel, the sake dons pleasant oak aromas, just as if it were wearing a kimono for a special occasion. Using black koji, its is brimming with rich umami and sweetness from the rice, intermingled with spicy notes from barrel maturation. Best enjoyed at a leisurely pace, enjoy exploring what this amalgamation of Japanese sake and French oak have to offer.

Staff comments

This sake is part of the Haregi series, a range of sake matured in wine casks. The base sake is a Junmai from the Kinmon Akita Sake Brewery, made using black koji, which is then matured in a wine cask. High acidity from the black koji and a rich, brown sugar-like sweetness are wrapped in gentle aromas of barrel maturation. Serve at room temperature or very lightly chilled in a wine glass to enjoy its mellow aromas, or try serving on the rocks for maximum freshness.
